Abandoned camps are surface campsite structures shipped in the Wilderness Bound update (stable 2026-09-15) — the drop after Chaos Cubed. Available on Java Edition 26.3 and Bedrock Edition 26.50 onwards. Each camp is a small cluster of tents, barrels, a campfire and scattered supplies left behind by whoever pitched the site. See Mojang's Wilderness Bound announcement for the full drop notes. The SeedLander Minecraft Abandoned Camp finder maps every camp across a wide radius of your seed, so you can plan a full sweep before you set out.

Around each camp you'll find barrels of day-to-day supplies and — most of the time — a chest holding copper gear, including the new Copper Spear. Not every camp has a chest, but every camp has barrels. The real prize is the hidden chest — a rare oxidized copper chest that sometimes generates underneath a barrel or the visible chest — carrying diamonds, iron gear, brewed potions and the Iron Spear.

Camps generate in 18 biome variants — cherry grove, dappled forest, meadow, forest, birch forest, all three old-growth taigas, snowy taiga, taiga, savanna, sparse jungle, bamboo jungle, windswept forest, wooded badlands, pale garden, swamp and flower forest — each with its own tent colours, furniture and fence types. That makes the finder useful even if you're not chasing loot: it's a fast way to seed-hop between camp aesthetics for screenshots, builds or a photo tour of the update.

Camps don't spawn hostile mobs, so the campsite itself is safe. The subtle thing is that zombies and skeletons sometimes shelter in tents during the day (like they do under trees) — sweep the tents before you loot. Cobwebs sometimes replace whole tent walls in weathered variants: break them with shears if you want the cobweb block back, or with a sword if you'd rather have String. Both work.

Frequently Asked Questions

How Abandoned Camps Work

Every camp is a small handmade set piece. Mojang built 18 biome-specific variants — tents dyed to match the surrounding trees, biome-specific fence types, furniture that changes from birch benches in a birch forest to bamboo stools in a bamboo jungle, and the campfire, barrels and tent-wall composition all swap around too. Mathematically that's 8,640 unique camp configurations. You can visit the exact same camp layout in five seeds and it'll look like five different builds.

The finder above shows every abandoned camp across a wide radius of your seed. Enter your seed, pick your edition, and every camp pin drops onto the map with the biome it spawned in. The map defaults to the latest stable version (Java 26.3 / Bedrock 26.50). Flip the version dropdown if you're on a specific build. For the wider biome context, open the full Seed Map.

Before You Set Off

A quick rundown of what makes abandoned camps different from every other structure — and why the rare hidden chest is the reason to check every camp you pass.

  • Where they spawnEighteen biome variants: cherry grove, dappled forest, meadow, forest, birch forest, all three old-growth taigas, snowy taiga, taiga, savanna, sparse jungle, bamboo jungle, windswept forest, wooded badlands, pale garden, swamp and flower forest. Camps sit on the surface — no digging needed — usually in a small clearing.
  • ContainersBarrels of everyday supplies at every camp + usually (not always) a chest with copper gear including the Copper Spear + a rare oxidized copper "hidden" chest that sometimes hides underneath one of them, holding diamonds, iron gear, brewed potions and the Iron Spear.
  • VersionWilderness Bound — stable in Java Edition 26.3 and Bedrock Edition 26.50 (both released 2026-09-15). No experimental toggle needed.
  • Tool you should bringCobwebs sometimes replace whole tent walls — shears give you back the cobweb (great for slow-fall and builds), a sword breaks them faster and gives you String. Pick whichever drop you want. Torches for anywhere you plan to sleep. Any pickaxe for the hidden chest hunt.
  • DangerNo hostile mobs hard-coded to spawn inside camps — the campsite itself is safe. The nuisances are cobwebs slowing you down and low-light tent interiors letting ambient mobs sneak in at night. Torch the corners as you clear.

What's in the Containers

Every camp has barrels; most camps have a chest; and rarely a hidden oxidized copper "hidden" chest tucks underneath one of the visible containers. Here's what each rolls.

Hidden chest (rare — worth checking under everything)

  • Diamond — the standout roll; rare on this pool but every camp's worth a look.
  • Iron Spear — the upgraded version of the new spear weapon.
  • Iron gear — Iron Axe, Iron Leggings, Iron Boots.
  • Brewed potions — Healing, Leaping, Night Vision or Swiftness.
  • Copper, iron and gold ingots as filler.
  • Bedrock only: an Oxidized Copper Chain also rolls here.

Chest (most camps have one)

  • Copper Spear — the base version of the new weapon; a good sword replacement early game.
  • Full copper gear — Copper Sword, Copper Axe, Copper Chestplate, Copper Leggings, Copper Boots.
  • Adventuring supplies — Bow, Shears, Spyglass, Bucket, Compass, Map, Firework rocket, Lead, Saddle, Flint and steel.

Barrels (everyday supplies)

  • Food and dry goods — Bread, Wheat, Bowl, Glass bottle, Candle, Fishing rod.
  • Basic materials — Bone, Coal, Leather, Rabbit hide, String, Arrow, Bundle.
  • Cobweb — pick these up with shears; they're useful build blocks and slow-fall traps.
  • Wooden Axe as the melee filler.

How to Clear a Camp Cleanly

The trick isn't difficulty, it's not accidentally destroying what you're trying to find. Here's a reliable order to hit every camp without losing the hidden chest to a stray pickaxe swing.

  1. Check the tents for mobs on arrival. The tent interiors aren't darker than the surrounding daylight, but zombies (and the occasional skeleton) love to shelter in shade during the day, and can wander in from the trees at night. Sweep the tents quickly before you loot, and light the area up with torches if you're there at dusk or planning to sleep nearby.
  2. Loot the chests and barrels. Not every camp has a chest — some are barrel-only. When there is one, it's usually beside the campfire or inside the main tent. Empty it plus every barrel around the camp before you dig further. This is where the Copper Spear, the full copper armour set and the everyday tools come from — enough to kit out a fresh spawn.
  3. Break cobwebs with either shears or a sword — you're picking your reward. Cobwebs sometimes replace whole tent walls in weathered variants. Shears give you back the cobweb (a great slow-fall block, and useful for builds). A sword breaks it faster and gives you String — useful for bows and traps. Pick whichever drop you actually want.
  4. Look under and around the containers for the hidden chest. The rare oxidized copper chest sometimes generates underneath a barrel or chest. Chests and barrels drop their contents to the ground when you break them, so mine straight through with any pickaxe — nothing gets destroyed, worst case an item bounces onto the grass. Not every camp has one, so if there's nothing under the campfire and the visible containers, move on to the next camp.
  5. Photograph the variant before you leave. There are 18 biome-themed camp variants and, per Mojang, 8,640 possible unique configurations. Once you've looted a camp there's no reason to come back — take a screenshot from a few angles first. The finder shows you which biomes are within range if you're trying to collect them all.

Pair It With Other Wilderness Bound Content

On any updated Java 26.3 / Bedrock 26.50 world, camps pair nicely with the drop’s other new content. The Dappled Forest biome hosts the most photogenic camp variant — poplar trees and red shrubs make an autumnal backdrop; our full guide walks through how to find one. Trail Ruins live in some of the same biomes and share the "search and dig" DNA — you can often clear a camp and hit a nearby ruin in the same trip. Pillager Outposts are useful for testing your new Iron Spear against something that shoots back. Open the full seed map to see where the Dappled Forest biome sits in your world.
