End City Finder

Every end city and end ship in your seed. Elytra runs made efficient.

End Cities are Minecraft end-dimension structures generated on outer End Islands after defeating the Ender Dragon. They are the only naturally-generated source of Elytra (in the End Ship variant) and Shulker Boxes, plus diamond and iron block treasures.

End Cities are the ultimate endgame structures in Minecraft, home to Elytra wings, shulker shells and heavily enchanted diamond equipment. The SeedLander Minecraft End City finder reveals every End City location across a wide radius in your seed so you can plan efficient routes across the outer End islands.

Reaching End Cities requires defeating the Ender Dragon and stepping into an End Gateway portal that the fight unlocks. Once in the outer End, finding cities can be challenging because the outer islands are separated by long stretches of void. Enter your seed to map every End City on both Java and Bedrock editions.

The Elytra is the single most game-changing item in Minecraft. Combined with firework rockets it enables powered flight, transforming how you travel, build and explore your world. Only End Cities with an End Ship docked nearby hold an Elytra — and not every city has one, so collecting extras for backups is essential since Elytra durability depletes during flight.

End Cities also provide shulker shells dropped by the Shulker mobs guarding each tower. Shulker boxes crafted from two shells and a chest are the best storage solution in the game, keeping their contents when broken. The Minecraft End City finder helps you plan routes that maximise both Elytra and shulker shell collection across multiple cities.

Frequently Asked Questions

⚠

Shulker bullets are relentless

Every Shulker in the city fires a guided projectile that homes in on you and inflicts Levitation. The effect lasts 10 seconds and lifts you several blocks into the air — and the fall back down is where people die. Keep a water bucket (water works in the End), a milk bucket or Slow Falling potions handy.

How End Cities Work in Minecraft

End cities are where the real endgame loot lives. Floating towers of purpur and end-stone built on the outer islands of The End, each city has multiple levels of rooms guarded by shulkers (the cube-shaped box mobs), and most importantly — an End Ship. That's the flying galleon next to the main tower, and inside is the Elytra, the only way to genuinely fly in vanilla Minecraft.

The finder above shows every End City in a wide radius of your seed's End dimension. Pop your seed in, pick your edition, and the pins land across the outer islands. You'll need to have already killed the Dragon and placed an end portal before these become reachable. The full Seed Map can show End Cities alongside End Gateways too — handy when you're picking which gateway beam to step into for the closest city.

What to know about End Cities

  • Where they areEnd Cities only generate on the outer End islands, well away from the central island where you fight the Dragon. You reach those outer islands by stepping into one of the End Gateway beams that appear after the Dragon dies, or by flying out from the central island once you have an Elytra.
  • End ShipOnly some End Cities generate with an End Ship — a flying galleon docked next to the main tower that holds the city's only Elytra in an item frame in the lower treasure room. Roughly one in four cities has a ship, so most players visit two or three cities before finding one with wings to grab.
  • ShulkersShulkers are box-shaped hostile mobs clinging to the walls of the city towers. Closed, they look like part of the wall — which makes them easy to walk past until one opens up and fires a homing Levitation bullet at you.
  • LootCity chests roll enchanted diamond tools, iron ingots, emeralds, beetroot seeds, saddles, and the occasional horse armour. Killed shulkers also drop shulker shells, which craft into shulker boxes — portable chests that keep their contents when broken.
  • VersionEnd Cities were added in the 1.9 Combat Update alongside the rest of the End dimension overhaul, and have appeared in every edition since.

What you're trading off

The risk

Levitation falls

Shulker bullets home in. Getting tagged sends you 30+ blocks straight up, and the fall afterwards is what kills most first-timers. Void drops from end-city edges are also unrecoverable.

The reward

Elytra and shulker boxes

The Elytra unlocks movement that transforms every other trip for the rest of the world. Shulker shells craft into shulker boxes — portable, contents-preserving chests. Both are world-changing finds.

What to pack before you fly out

Water bucket Water buckets (many)

A water bucket is your safety net for Levitation. When a shulker bullet hits you, Levitation lasts 10 seconds and lifts you several blocks up — and the fall when the effect ends is what kills most first-timers. Water DOES work in the End (unlike the Nether), so pouring a bucket at your feet mid-fall turns the drop into a slow swim and leaves you unhurt. Bring at least two — if you take a second Levitation hit before you can pick the first bucket back up, you'll wish you had a spare.

Slow falling potion Slow-falling potions

A Slow Falling potion is the safest answer to shulker Levitation. While the potion is active, all your falls are gentle, so you can ignore most of the damage from being launched into the air. Brew them with Phantom Membranes (dropped by phantoms when you've gone too long without sleep) plus Awkward Potions. Drink one the moment you land in the city and refresh as needed.

Bow Bow + Punch II arrows

A bow enchanted with Punch is the most efficient way to clear an End City. A Punch arrow knocks shulkers clean off the wall they're attached to, and once a shulker has been knocked loose it never re-attaches — meaning a single shot effectively removes that shulker as a threat for the rest of the visit. Power adds damage on top, so a Power V Punch II bow is ideal.

Night vision potion Milk + potions

Milk and a Night Vision potion are your two emergency tools. A milk bucket immediately cancels the Levitation effect, which can save you from a bad mid-air drop if you drink it fast enough. A Night Vision potion lights up the inside of the city so you can spot closed shulkers tucked into dim corners before they spot you. Brew Night Vision with a Golden Carrot at a Brewing Stand.

Cobblestone Blocks for bridges

Bring a stack of solid blocks for bridging — End Stone (mined on the way to the city) or plain cobblestone both work fine. The End Ship docks next to the main tower with a gap you'll need to bridge across, and there are smaller gaps inside the city you may need to fill in too. Try not to look down while bridging; the End void below is unforgiving and there's no respawn-with-items in there.

Clearing a City Without Dying

  1. Approach the city from the sky rather than from below. Gliding in from above gives you a clear view of where the shulkers are sitting on the tower walls, which lets you plan your shots before you commit. If you don't have an Elytra yet, climb to the top of a nearby outer-island spike using End Stone for the same effect.
  2. Pick off every visible shulker with your bow before you enter the city. Shulker bullets track you and can't be easily dodged once they're fired, but the shulkers themselves are slow to attack and easy targets — your arrows will land well before theirs do. Punch arrows are ideal because they knock the shulker off its perch permanently.
  3. Once the city is clear, look for an End Ship — a flying galleon docked next to the main tower. Roughly half of End Cities have one, and it's your top priority because the Elytra is inside. If you don't see a ship, the city won't have an Elytra and you'll need to head to a different city for one.
  4. Inside the End Ship cabin you'll find a brewing stand on a bookshelf and an Item Frame holding the Elytra — that's the wings you came for. There's also a Dragon Head fixed to the bow (front) of the ship, which is the only way to get one outside of fighting the Ender Dragon. Take everything and watch your step on the ship's narrow walkways; falling off into the void at this point would be devastating.
  5. If the city doesn't have an End Ship, don't leave empty-handed — loot the tower chests anyway. They reliably contain enchanted diamond tools and armour (often with high-level enchants), iron and gold ingots, emeralds, and the occasional Spire Armour Trim template. The Elytra trip wasn't wasted; you just need to head to another city for the wings.

Unlock faster travel with the Elytra

Once you have an Elytra, every other finder becomes easier. Woodland mansions, ancient cities thousands of blocks from spawn — all reachable in an afternoon. Fireworks are your fuel, and a firework-loaded crossbow helps maintain speed. The End City trip is genuinely the "fast travel unlocked" moment of the game.
